Importing a Weebly site to Articulation is simple and easy. In many cases, we can import most - if not all - of your content, saving you time. Want to see what does and doesn’t migrate? See the following FAQ or skip to the steps below.
Note: At this time we are unable to import Square sites and only support converting Weebly sites.
FAQ
-
What will be imported from Weebly?
- Publicly accessible pages. All pages that are not password-protected or members-only will be imported.
- Page content. Any content added with Weebly drag-and-drop elements is imported. Most popular elements from the Weebly App Center are also imported.
- Blog posts. All published blog posts are imported.
- Online Store. We import all products, product images, categories, modifiers, options, and settings.
- Site Settings. Any custom header and footer code from your site settings is imported. We also import your SEO descriptions, keywords, and favicon.
- Uploaded files. Files you uploaded to your Weebly site will be imported only if they are linked to on your published site. Older files that are not linked to will not be imported. If you need those files on your Articulation site, export your Weebly site and re-upload the files in Articulation.
-
What will not be imported from Weebly?
- Custom themes and content that is added via the custom theme editor. For example, if your custom theme has page or design elements that you don’t add via the drag-and-drop editor, then those are not imported.
- Some App Center apps. While we import many app elements, there are some that we do not. If you are unsure whether an App Center element will be imported, please contact our support team.
- Blog Drafts and Blog Comments. While we do import published blog posts, we do not import blog comments or blog drafts.
- Password-protected pages and Members-only pages. We only import publicly accessible pages, so if you want password-protected or members-only pages to be imported, you’ll need to make them temporarily public.
- Members and Groups. You’ll need to recreate your members and groups in Articulation.
- Non-public information. We are not affiliated with Weebly and do not have access to private information you have on your website or store. Coupon codes, your home/store/shipping addresses, and similar information that does not appear on your site or store will not be imported.
-
It’s still processing and says you’ve been alerted. What’s going on?
- This means we ran into an issue importing your site and it alerted us. Don’t worry, you don’t need to take any action and we’ll email you when the import completes.
-
Will my old site remain up during and after importing?
- Yes! Your old site will remain up at Weebly both during and after the import. When you are ready to use your new Articulation site, you can then update your custom domain to work with Articulation ensuring a smooth transition.
-
Do I need to make 301 redirects for any pages? I don’t want to affect my SEO.
- We automatically create 301 redirects for all pages of your site, including blog posts, store products and pages, and more.
-
Will I need to upgrade?
- You don’t need to upgrade to import your site. You will need to upgrade to publish your new site if it includes paid features, though.
How to Import a Weebly Site
To import your site, follow these steps:
In Weebly
- Make sure your site is not hidden from search engines. Go to your site settings in Weebly and make sure the option to hide the site from search engines is toggled off.
- Turn off password protection. Only publicly accessible pages will be imported, so you may need to temporarily disable password protection for your site. After importing you can set up password protection in Articulation.
- Make members-only pages viewable by anyone. Like password-protected pages, members-only pages will need to be temporarily publicly accessible. You can also set up membership in Articulation once the import is complete.
- Publish your Weebly site. Publishing after making the above changes will make sure that we’re importing the most up-to-date version of your site.
In Articulation
- Add a new site. From your account dashboard, click the Add Site button.
- Click the Convert My Weebly Site button.
- Enter the website address of your Weebly site.
- Click Preview to see how your imported site will look as an Articulation site.
- Click Continue to start the import.
You’ll then see a progress bar along with some information showing what is currently being imported. It usually only takes a few minutes to import, and you'll get an email from us once the import has completed.
My migration is complete, what do I do now?
