To create and manage blog posts, go to the Blog page of your dashboard. From this page you can create and manage your blog posts, as well as manage settings specific to your blog. Note, if you’ve made posts and want to show them on your site, see our guide on adding a blog page.
Create a Blog Post
To create a blog post, click on the New Post button. The website editor will load for you to create a post along with all the components you are familiar with that you use to add content to a page.
There is one special component that is also available to you: the Blog Read More Break component. This component inserts a “Read More” link and hides the rest of the post content behind it under certain circumstances:
- On the ‘Blog Index’ system page for the Starter, Lateral, and Summit themes.
- With the Full layout option with the Featured Posts component.
On the panel to the right are several options used with your blog post.
- Title - The title of your post.
- Subtitle - An optional subtitle for your post. This is shown on the full post page.
- Slug - The last part of the URL of your post. We automatically create this from your post title, but you can customize this to something else.
- Tags - Type a word and hit enter to add it as a tag. You’ll also see a dropdown showing existing tags which you can add as well. On your published site these tags are listed with the post, and visitors can click on them to view a page showing all posts with the tag.
- Comments Enabled - This option allows you to disable comments on a post if you have comments enabled globally for your blog.
- Published Date Type - There are two options: automatic, and scheduled. The first will let you publish immediately, and the second will provide you with a date field so you can schedule the publication of your post.
- Cover photo - A cover image used with the Featured Posts component as well as on the Blog Index page and the post page itself.
- Cover image alt text - You can enter alt text for your cover image, which is helpful for screen readers and SEO.
- Visibility - Use this option to control who can see the post. By default this is set to Visible to everyone, but you can change this to Visible to specific group, then select which groups you created as part of setting up membership with your site.
At the top right of the website editor you’ll see a few different buttons to manage actually publishing, saving, or scheduling the post:
- Exit Without Saving - If you change your mind about creating or editing a blog post, click this to exit without saving changes.
- Preview - Click this to view a preview of the post.
- Save as Draft - Click this to save the post as a draft.
- Publish or Schedule - If the Published date type option is set to scheduled, you’ll see a Schedule button, otherwise if it’s set to automatic you’ll see a Publish button.
Manage Drafts, Scheduled, and Publish Posts
On your blog dashboard we show separate lists of drafts, scheduled posts, and published posts. For each post - regardless of type - click on the three dots to the right to find management options. These vary depending on the type of post.
Drafts and Scheduled Posts
Both drafts and scheduled posts have the following options:
- Edit - Choose this option to open the post in the website editor.
- Duplicate Post - Use this option to create a copy of the post.
- Delete - With this option you can delete a post.
Published Posts
Schedule posts have the following management options:
- Edit - Click on this option to open the blog post in the website editor.
- Duplicate Post - With this option you can duplicate a published post.
- Unpublish - With published posts, you can use this option to un-publish them. Unpublished posts can be published again.
- Delete - Use this option to delete a published post.
Blog Post Settings
To manage global settings for your blog, scroll down below your lists of posts and you’ll see a few different setting options:
- Show Author Information on Posts - Show an author avatar for the post. Note that this is not displayed on all themes.
- Show When Posts were Published - Automatically show when the post was published.
- Hide Blog from Search Engines - Toggle this option on to hide your blog and blog posts from search engines. Note that your blog will still be visible to all human visitors unless you set up password protection or membership.
