To create and manage products you can sell on your website, go to Commerce > Products on your Articulation dashboard. Here you can create, edit, copy, and delete products. To create a new product click on the Create Product button.
Basic Product Information
- Name - Enter the name of your product.
- Type - We currently support four types of products: physical, digital, service, and donation. Depending on which you choose, this will update the fields we’ll cover below.
- Upload Product Images - Click this to upload images of your product. We support most common image formats. Product images are currently only available for physical products. Note: You can also simply drag and drop images to the button area to upload them.
- Upload Product - This button will only display for digital products. Click on it to upload a file for download upon purchase of the product.
- URL - We automatically generate the last part of a product page URL for you based on the product name. You can edit this if you want to change this, such as for SEO purposes.
- Base SKU - We generate this for you, but you can edit this to your preferred product SKU.
- Donation Amount - This option only shows for donation products. By default we include some standard donation amounts. To add another amount, click the Add Amount button, enter an amount and click the Add Amount button on the popup. To remove an amount, click the X button found on an amount.
- Allow Custom Amounts - This option only shows for donation products. Toggle this on to allow visitors to enter custom donation amounts.
- Price - Enter the price for the product.
- Sale Price (optional) - Optionally set a sale price for the product. You can add and remove this at any time.
- Description - Enter and edit the description of your product. This description is intended to be shorter. To add more information and other website components, use the Edit Product Page Content button.
- Product Available - Toggle this off to hide the product from Featured Products and Featured Categories components. It will also prevent purchase if the product page is visited directly by a customer.
- Allow Pickup - This option only shows for physical products. Toggle this on to allow pickup as a fulfillment option for this product.
- Shipping Properties - This option only shows for physical products. Click on the Edit Shipping Properties button to specify the weight and dimensions of the product.
- Product Visible - Toggle this off to hide the product from search engines and the Featured Products and Featured Categories components. It will remain accessible via the product page URL, which can be useful if you want to limit who can see the product.
- Limit Downloads - Toggle this on to limit the number of downloads. This option only shows for digital products.
- Track Stock - This option only shows for physical products. Toggle this on and enter a stock amount to track stock for the product.
- Edit Product Page Content - Click this button to open the product page in the website editor where you can add components to the product page.
Once you’ve made your edits, click on the Save button.
Options
Product options allow you to create different variations of a product. For example, if you sell a shirt in different sizes and colors then you create an option for size and option for color. Once saved, we will automatically generate variations based on those product options. To edit a variation, click on the “...” menu icon to the right of a variation. You can edit the price, sale price, and SKU, and can also edit shipping properties.
Note: that product options are not available for donation products.
Variants
Once you have created product options, you’ll see a list of product variants automatically created from your product options. This allows you to customize the image, price, discounted price, SKU, and fulfillment of product variations individually. Be sure to click the Save button after making changes to any product variation.
Note: By default the price of any variation inherits the main product price. If you change the price of the product, all variations will update to this except those where you customized the price.
Modifiers
Unlike product options, modifiers don’t create variations of a product. They do, however, allow your customers to add customizations or addons to a product. There are three types of modifiers:
- Multiple Options (Checkboxes) - This is a great way to group together related modifiers. For example, if your product has a number of optional accessories you could group name your modifier “accessories” and add each accessory as a modifier option.
- Dropdown (Single Input) - With this option, customers can select a single customization or addon from a dropdown menu.
- Single Checkbox/Addon - This is useful when you only have a single modifier or addon, or modifiers that aren’t really related to each other.
- Text Input - This is used when you want to have a text customization option.
Reviews
Once your product has received reviews, you’ll see these listed on the product management page. You can click the View Transaction button to view the order associated with the review, and the Delete button to delete the review.
Copy a Product
To copy a product, go to Commerce > Products and click on the copy icon to the right of a product. The newly created copy will be added to the bottom of the list of products.
Delete a Product
To delete a product, go to Commerce > Products and click on the trash can icon to the right of a product. You can also click the icon or product name to edit a product, then scroll down and use the Delete Product button to delete the product.
Bulk Edit Products
To bulk edit multiple products, go to Commerce > Products from your account dashboard, then click the Bulk Edit button. Check the box next to any product you want to include in your bulk edit, then click the Edit Selected button. If you want to select all products, click the Select All button first. A popup window will appear that includes selected product options - make any changes you wish and click Save to save changes to all selected products.
