Using a custom domain name with your Articulation site is a great way to increase your professional branding, and it’s easy to set up. To use a custom domain with your site, go to the Domain page of your Articulation dashboard. Next, enter your custom domain name in the text field and click Connect.
You’ll now see some DNS records which are configured at your domain registrar, the place where you purchased and manage your domain. DNS records are special rules that tell browsers where to go to load a website when you visit the domain. Copy the IP address shown on this page, then head over to your domain registrar to update the two DNS records shown to use the IP address.
If you’re unsure how to change DNS records with your registrar, most will have help articles that show how to do this. You can also contact their support teams and request the changes with the following:
Hello! I want to use my domain [CUSTOM DOMAIN] with my Articulation website. To do this I need to add or update the A records for my root domain and ‘www’ subdomain to point to [IP ADDRESS]. Thank you for your help!
Be sure to update the text above with your custom domain name and the IP address. Once completed, these changes take effect within an hour or so, though it can take up to 48 hours in rare cases. In the meantime, head back over to your Articulation dashboard and click the Confirm and Connect button.
That’s it! The Domain page of your dashboard will update automatically once your domain is connected, and all you need to do after that is publish your site.
Something not working quite right? Here are few things to check:
- Extra A records for your root domain or ‘www’ subdomain
- Remove any A records for your root domain and ‘www’ that are not pointed to Articulation.
- Using a Proxy
- If you use a service like CloudFlare, make sure proxying is off or set to ‘DNS only.’
- Cached DNS records by your computer or ISP
- Sometimes your computer or ISP (internet service provider) will cache DNS records, even though they are changed at your registrar. Usually this resolves on its own if you give it more time, though you can try rebooting your computer and ISP modem.
- Typos
Doublecheck that you’ve entered the correct spelling of your domain in Articulation, and that you are using the IP address.
